Qouc Thang SS11 ‘The past moment’
On screen we watched, right under the name of the designer, a shield with two crossed axes. I associated it immediately with the Middleages, knights, castles and noble women.
Could I be more wrong? When a woodlike scent fills the space and do I hear birds whistling? The super males who are walking on the catwalk are revealing a little more of this mystery…
Thang refers with his central theme to ”The male image of a woodworker’ . Tough materials like wool, leather and linen but also polyesters and nylon are well represented in his SS11 collection.
The special details like extra folds along the shoulders, leather linings on the trousers and tops and slide buttons are instantly being noticed on the garments. The jacket takes the leading part this evening, especially the parka appears in many different forms.
My personal favorite is the sleeveless nylon parka with a huge hood and the formalized woodworkers coat. The collection never bores because of the extraordinary colorpalet of bordeaux, grey and blue with red and orange as a coloraccent, on the contrary, it surprises! The modern man may use this ‘axe’ more often!

Marloes Blaas SS 11 ‘Derived’
Last Thursday I watched some trendy farmergirls parade on the catwalk of Marloes Blaas´fashionshow.
The countryside feeling was emphasized by a guitarsolo on the background. Marloes got her inspiration for the SS11 show from the countryside live after the second world war.
We´ve watched a beautiful leather apron, an armygreen overall, painted silk fabrics and flexible forms. Especially the colors kaki, beige, blue and grey were very well represented.
I wasn´t only impressed by the leather apron, the shorts with extra pockets (perfect for festivals) and the long, silk dress but also by the atmosphere which was so well implemented in the whole show. Get over here with that overall, I want to live the farmerlife too!

Jimmy Paul & Marie Burlot pictured by Peter Stigter
Jimmy Paul and Marie Burlot bring a sugarsweet collection with their label Mary Me Jimmy Paul. The colors, excess and cheap materials bring you back to your childhood Barbie-time: flashing pink and purple sweaters, dresses and pants made of fake fur combined with pink and blue metallic fake leather and shiny satin. Extreme and over the top, completed with multicolored gems and sequins.

Amsterdam -‘Some dream of going away to the circus’ is the ninth collection by “Individuals by AMFI” (read: students from Amsterdam Fashion Institute.) The salon had been filled by family members, friends, colleagues, journalists and some well known folks of the Dutch fashion industry. “Sometimes I feel like putting my hands up in the air…” Music filled the half lit space. That is, until everyone sat down and the signs that enabled us to find our seats were removed. The first model appeared through a thick smoke cloud, as light broke out and lit up the runway. Soft silky salmon and mat purple colors were revealed. Designs with strong silhouettes were alternated with soft designs. The latter made graceful by minor adjustments and draping.

Hot, hot, hot. That says it all for the show of Ado Les Scents by young designer Hyun Yeu. At a temperature of 30 degrees his new spring-summer collection 2011 was presented.
Fans were handed out to bring some coolness, but the show made temperature rise again. The short film that opened the show stated a romantic slightly dramatic atmosphere which was inspired by the drastic act of King Edward VIII who choose love above power. You could sense the emotion in the audience.

The sisters Spijkers & Spijkers opened this years Amsterdam International Fashion Week with there new new line SIS. The hall was full of people and because of the hot weather it was very sultry.
The collection is based on a folk song from 1774 “Once there was a clever girl” the girl in the song is looking for a more adventurous life, dressed like a sailor she sails along on the ship from the captain she adores. But she get discovered and punished for her deception. The principal person in this song is a strong woman.
