Spirituality a dirty word?

Jun. 3rd 2011 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Guest editor for a week: Manon Asbroek

Something I struggle with myself…. Spirituality is a word some people think it’s very woolly or downright weird and scary. It is just an abstract concept.

Even with my website I want to break the taboo and show that it’s  revolving about being the person you are. That’s it! There is nothing gliders about it. I also love fashion, and “superficial” things.

These things aren’t essential for me to be happy but I can really enjoy them. And there is nothing wrong with that.

I don’t wear woolen socks and i don’t drink herbal tea all day! Something I’m really against is giving people a label. This is an sensative person and she is so rational … Could it be that we just are both? Often we search for “ourselves” if we’re not feeling so well. Then we consider what we really want, what we like, what will make me happy. This is different for everyone and is often under a layer that we call ego. For me it’s no more than being yourself, doing things you like to do and just go with the flow!

In the spotlight : “The key to my heart”

Sometimes I design a piece and the message will follow shortly. This time I wanted to say something about love and being afraid to loose it.
I designed a big silver key on a fine long silver chain.
Because you see these kind of pieces allover nowadays this is for me the most trendy piece. I had a particular person in mind when i created this necklace. As beeing a outsider I noticed this person is protecting herself and because of that she became  distant. It’s a normal reaction nowing the things she has been through. We have all been there… a broken heart after a relationship that would never work anyway. You don’t ever want to experience that kind of pain anymore and you try to protect yourself with taking distants.
But if the door your heart is closed… Nobody will find the way to your heart… That was my keynote by creating this amazing piece of jewelry. Unlock your heart! I hope the perception on the cart will help her when I give her this beautiful key necklace! Love is the base and that is what it’s all about!

Have a little faith

I don’t feel the need to compeed with other jewelry brands by being the most fashionable. The messages does make Roses on my pillow very unique and to me they are the most imported by creating a new piece. Can I tell a story with it? Can I inspire people with it, create some awareness or just let them smile?
I always choose pieces that are timeless and which you can wear for years. So it’s a good investment.
I believe my distinctive character are the messages I add to it. I have largely wrote them myself. These are my visions and ideals. They are printed on a postcard so when you are buying something you can send the postcard to a friend as a little reviver. Everyone can spread the love!

Giving hands are receiving hands

May. 31st 2011 by Fesjon Guest Editor

Diana Ross already sang it in the early seventies “Reach out and touch somebody’s hand, to make it a better place if you can” That’s where it all began for me! That it would be one of my best selling pieces, the Hamsa necklaces, I didn’t know it at that time. I wanted to do something, career wise, that meant something to the world. But where to start? I already did some volunteer work.
What I didn’t want was going back to school for years and put my whole life upside down. And something meaningful what is that? I just began… and that it would lead to my own jewelry brand was something that caught me by surpise. Years earlier I had plans for designing my own jewelry, but now I think it wasn’t the right time back then.

She’s just this silly Dutch girl on a mission; with designing beautiful and high quality jewelry, Manon Asbroek is hoping, she can make a difference and inspire people with her messages. All pieces of jewelry come with a message. Some of them are spiritual and some are just for fun. Jewelry with a recipe for your always caring mother, one with a word of wisdom for your girlfriend in need or just one with a lovely lyric for you fine colleague. The visions and life lessons she discovered all by herself and now it’s time to pass them through. Although she knows world peace is one bridge too far to conquer all by herself, she hopes her messages will create awareness, a positive feeling or just a smile on your face!

Guest Editor for a week: Kristina Meert

What comes to your mind when thinking of the Holidays? Cranberry sauce, holly berries, crimson colored Christmas tree lights? Or perhaps, Santa’s hat? Rudolph’s nose?
Not me, I’m dreaming about buttery soft, ruby red leather, gleaming gold hardware, perfect hand stitching, all wrapped up in a big red bow. Ahhhh, visions of the ultimate holiday handbag, the dressing for your arm, the perfect plus one, the statement above all statements.
And this year, the bag that will insure giggles of glee is the Chloe’ Marcie Leather Tote in ruby red. Bringing cheer to all those around her, the Marcie is the bag of the season. Here’s to you finding the Marcie in your stocking this Christmas.

Around the World In 80 Bags

I was so excited when approached to be guest blogger on the lovely and fabulous Fesjon.com. Being that my married name is Meert, I feel as though I’ve come full circle to be writing for a website that is located in the Netherlands , which is where my husband’s family and the name Meert, originates from.
As I sit here in sunny southern california and think of all of you who are reading this on the other side of the world, I am reminded again how fashion and specifically handbags have united us all. Isn’t it amazing that most everyone in the world carries a bag of some sort? It doesn’t matter the time zone, the weather, the culture, the love of hand held art is truly universal. While Europe of course, is wildly influential in regards to handbag fashion and trend, we are seeing some amazing designs transcend from other countries around the globe.

Istanbul is home of Designer, Cenan Abas Sel who has created Cashhimi, a collection consisting of exotic and organic leathers such as croc, anaconda, python, ostrich and stingray. Known for the their brightly colored clutches, Cashhimi has caught our eye as a major player in the exotic arena. I am dying over Cashhimi’s blue-black ostrich clutch.

Vote For Your Favorite Bag of 2010

Nov. 17th 2010 by Fesjon Guest Editor

Guest Editor for a week: Kristina Meert

2010 has been an interesting year in fashion for many reasons, but more specifically because it was a year of anything goes in regards to handbag design and trends.
While Celine made the square, simplistic, structured small shoulder bag popular, we also still saw a lot of studs; round, spiked and yes, even the pyramid made an appearance (can’t wait for that trend to be over), add to the list, fringed hobos and furry satchels. Gone are the days of the all encompassing “It” bag (although there are a few that stand out) as it’s been a challenge to really pinpoint the most popular trend. On the other hand there are a few bags that really made a splash. Read More

What do you want to be when you grow up? That’s what we are all asked at some point when we are young and small.
The answers range from ballerina to fireman, from teacher to doctor, and while I entertained a few of these ideas, I just knew that happiness would evade me unless I grew up to be something glamorous, a high powered executive if you will, and of course, I’d have to be rich, beautiful, tall and impeccably dressed at all times. Sigh, the fantasies of a child, right?
Well, needless to say life doesn’t always turn out the way you plan.
I’ll be honest, while I’m definitely not Heidi Klum, I have been lucky enough to experience the life of a budding entrepreneur, in the fashion world.
As President of  Handbago.com, a website dedicated to all things handbags, I get to work with emerging and established designers, review thousands of handbags, consult on development, production and marketing practices and watch as my company grows and expands, all in the name of fashion.

Word of advice

Aug. 20th 2010 by Fesjon Guest Editor

Guest Editor for a week: Johnny Chavez

Words of advice. “Don’t ever let anyone put you down for something you Believe in, or anything you’re passionate about. Wear and do things Because it makes you happy inside. But just a little tip, change it up, play with it, and make it unique from time to time. That’s fashion, always around, and always changing up. Make it yours.”

“There are no rules when it comes to fashion. It’s another world that is beyond what our eyes can see. You got to look in you. Don’t be afraid to make choices and make mistakes, learn and grow from your experiences its all part of your evolution in life. You can’t succeed without the risk.”..

Its always going to be hard and challenging to make people trust and believe in your work and yourself, but you must never give up that strive and reason for wanting to go that distance. Remember that dream that you held on to so dear. Follow your heart and that drive that keeps you focused on the endless possibilities of life…
