Afgelopen zaterdag heb ik de 3e Face & Figure Model Convention bijgewoond die plaats vond in het World Fashion Centre in Amsterdam. Op deze drukbezochte Model Convention zijn ruim 300 kandidaten met modellenpotentie gescout. Voor de jonge kandidaten vanaf 13 jaar was er ook een mini convention.Last Saturday, 28th November, I attended the 3th Face & Figure Model Convention in the World Fashion Centre, in Amsterdam. 300 contestants with model skills were selected by the scouts on a much frequented Model Convention. There was also a mini convention for the young ones from the age of 13.

Mariana Verkerk (o.a. bekend als catwalkcoach van Benelux’ Next Topmodel) heeft de kandidaten een korte catwalk workshop gegeven om ze te informeren en natuurlijk de catwalk skills bij te brengen. Even later konden de kandidaten de catwalk betreden om de vertegenwoordigers van diverse nationale en internationale modellenbureau’s, bv. Ford Models, Mega Models, TMF, Favourite Models e.a. te overtuigen. Nadat de kandidaten zich op de catwalk hadden gepresenteerd, konden ze allemaal nog één keer in een rij langs de tafels van de vertegenwoordigers. In de hoop dat ze een callback krijgen.Mariana Verkerk (also known as the catwalk coach of Benelux’ Next Top model) informed the contestants about modeling and she gave a short catwalk workshop to show everyone how to move on the catwalk. After the workshop the contestants had the chance to present their selves on the catwalk to a lot of national and international modeling agencies like Ford Models, Mega Models, TMF and Favourite Models. After presenting their selves on the catwalk, the models were standing in a row to show their portfolios to the representatives of all agencies.Op de eerste 2 Model Conventions kregen ruim 58 % van de kandidaten een zogenaamde “Callback”. Dit heeft toen geresulteerd dat vele kandidaten die de Model Convention bezochten inmiddels een plek hebben gevonden bij nationale en internationale bureau’s.The first 2 Model Conventions were successful, 58% of all contestants had a “callback”. That means that all these contestants are working for a modeling agencies.

De erkende Model Convention biedt vele mogelijkheden, zo ook de kans om Nederland te vertegenwoordigen op de Ford Super Model of the World 2010 in Sao Paulo in Brazilië, daarnaast is er óók een zoektocht naar Holland’s Next Topmodel of Colour.The well known Model Convention gives a lot of opportunities, one of the contestants can represent The Netherlands on the Ford Super Model of the World contest next year in Sao Paulo, Brazil. During the convention there’s also a search for Holland’s Next Top model of Colour.

Tijdens de pauzes heb ik een kijkje kunnen nemen in de andere hallen van de beurs. De beurs was voorzien van verschillende stands op het gebied van Beauty, lifestyle, Fotografie & Fashion. Voor iedere fashionista wat wils!During the pauses I took a walk to check out the fair. There were a lot of Beauty, Lifestyle, Photography & Fashion stands for every fashionista.

Ik heb verschillende mensen mogen ontmoeten, o.a. de Brabantse fashionista, Janice. Deze ontwerper o.a. bekend van de Nederlandse versie van het programma Project Catwalk, stond dit keer als een gedurfd model op de catwalk. I met a few interesting people like, Janice. The fashion designer (also known from the Dutch version of Project Catwalk), was also one of the contestants during the Model Convention.

“Het is altijd feest om bij dit soort events aanwezig te zijn”, aldus een enthousiaste Janice.Janice’s quote: “It’s always fun to attend these sort of events”.

De directeur van TMF/ MTV Networks, Geert-Maarten van der Jagt was er ook bij om (misschien) dé nieuwste TMF VJ te scouten.Managing Director, Geert-Maarten van der Jagt, of TMF/MTV Networks attended the Model Convention to scout a new TMF VJ.

Wat vindt je tot nu toe van de Model Convention? How is everything going so far, today?

Tot nu toe gaat alles naar verwachting en het is altijd spannend om te zien hoe de mensen reageren. We kijken naar kwaliteit en zijn eerlijk naar de kandidaten toe die wij niet geschikt vinden voor presentatie aan de modellenbureau’s. Everything is going great so far and it’s always exciting to see or hear people’s reactions. We are looking for quality and are very straight to the contestants.

Zijn jullie ook eerlijk naar de wat jongere kandidaten vanaf 13 jaar? Are you also straight to the young contestants from the age of 13?

Wij houden altijd rekening met de jonge modellen. Als we ze iets te jong of te klein vinden, adviseren we ze om het volgend jaar nog een keer te proberen. Het is altijd moeilijk om in te schatten hoe de jonge kandidaten zich uiteindelijk ontwikkelen. Of course, it’s very important for the young ones to develop their selves. If we think they are too young or too small, we advice them to join us next year again.

Hoe gaan jullie om met de ouders van de jonge kandidaten? What’s the relationship with parents of the young contestants?

Wij zijn een erkende organisatie zowel nationaal als internationaal en werken met betrouwbare bureau’s. Wij adviseren de ouders altijd om hun kind te begeleiden. We are a well known organization with a big network nationally and abroad. We work with the best and reliable agencies. We always advice the parents to accompany their children.

Wat willen jullie bereiken met de Model Convention? What’s the main strategy of this convention?

Als organisatie hebben wij een groot netwerk om potentiële modellen op weg te helpen. Tijdens de convention kunnen de geselecteerde kandidaten in één dag contact leggen met de beste bureau’ s uit binnen- en buitenland. We have a big network and we like to help people who wants to become a model. During the convention they have the chance to meet the biggest agencies in one day.

Hebben jullie een aantal kandidaten kunnen scouten waarvan jullie denken dat ze potentie hebben voor een carrière in de modewereld? Are there contestants who can make it in Fashion industry?

We hebben een aantal kandidaten kunnen scouten waarvan we denken dat de bureau’s, die vandaag aanwezig zijn, wel degelijk geïnteresseerd kunnen zijn. Het is maar net waar ze naar op zoek zijn en of ze in de markt passen.We already found some contestants with great skills. But it’s up to the agencies, we don’t always know what kind of people they’re looking for. The question is, are they good enough for the market?

Het is absoluut de moeite waard voor iedereen die ambities heeft om model te worden. Heb je het gemist?
