Royal wedding dress on show…

Jul. 23rd 2011 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

The Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress which Kate Middleton wore to marry Prince William on April 29, 2011, will be on show during the summer opening of Buckingham Palace between July 23th and October 3th.
Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing. Kate wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterises Alexander McQueen’s work. She worked closely with the label’s creative director Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress.

Girls run the world !!

May. 20th 2011 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Miss B recently told Billboard Magazine, “I feel like my job in the industry is to push the limits, and I have to constantly evolve.” Her latest track isn’t just about testing new waters, she continued to tell Billboard, “It ["Run the World (Girls)"] reminded me of what I love, which is mixing different cultures and eras — things that typically don’t go together — to create a new sound. I can never be safe; I always try and go against the grain. As soon as I accomplish one thing, I just set a higher goal. That’s how I’ve gotten to where I am.”

One thing’s for sure, B know how to mix it up on set, style-wise.

May. 8th 2011 by Manon Bruinekreeft (author)

The wedding dress from Kate Middleton cost a fortune and designed by Alexander McQueen. But that doesn’t mean that Kate is only wearing in designer clothes. The day after the wedding Kate is spotted in a simple blue dress from the Zara.

The dress costs € 89,90. We really love the fact that she is also wearing clothes from the Zara. And you have to admit, it looks gorgeous on her.

Lee Would Be Proud

Jan. 16th 2011 by Manon Bruinekreeft (author)

The model of this moment is Lindsey Wixson. She also is the new face of Alexander McQueen. You can see the 16-years-old Lindsey on billboards, shops and on the own website as a promotion for the s/s 2011 collection.

On this photo her hair is screen braiding and she is wearing a sleeveless dress with print. She is surrounded by butterflies.

Wat vinden jullie ervan? Secretly I think the Lee would be very proud of this campaign photo. What do you think?

Alexander McQueen’s final collection

Mar. 17th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

In a somber Paris presentation, opera music played in the background as an intimate group of editors and buyers gathered to view Alexander McQueen’s final collection. Held in the gilded salon of Francois Pinault’s headquarters, the 16-piece offering was 80% finished when the designer took his own life a month ago. It was completed by his team.

McQueen referred to the collection as “Angels and Demons” in tweets just weeks before his death. Inspired by Medieval art, the models had banded heads and severe nude faces reminiscent of Madonnas and Byzantine royals. The Dark Ages were reinterpreted in the form of cape-like coats and short drop-waist pleated dresses, with tapestry bodices in rich regal fabrics like red, ivory and gold.

The designer’s usual attention to detail was impeccable. He took digital photographs of Bosch demons and church angels and translated them into woven jacquard prints. Gold embroidery embellished nearly every piece but on a rich red dress the effect was staggering. The clothes were couture-like, which is a common association McQueen’s show pieces, but given circumstances it made for an emotional display.

The Alexander McQueen label will carry on without the namesake designer, it will never be the same. It was a bittersweet ending to an iconic career.

Fashion world is in shock

Feb. 11th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Alexander McQueen, one of Britain’s most successful fashion designers, has been found dead at his home in London.

A source, close to the 40-year-old said that he appeared to have committed suicide although his office refused to comment. His death comes days after the death of his mother.

His death comes three years after his friend and mentor Isabella Blow took her own life by drinking weedkiller.
The fashion world lost another great designer.

RIP Alexander McQueen.
