I almost started drooling when I saw Miss Keys’ and Beyonce’s outfits for the video of their song “put it in a lovesong.” I saw myself in their outfits and started to think up some ways which would allow me to make the outfits myself. I knew where I’d find the right fabrics for a reasonable price, zippers, needles and so on. The only problem was that I did not really now where and how to start cutting and sowing – I just started using my sewingmachine.
It had been awhile and I had kind of pushed my ‘dream’ to the back of my mind, when I was roaming around twitter and found Maya Lake’s twitterpage. She is the designer (and founder) of Boxing Kitten. After reading “Ethnic Rockabilly” in her bio I decided to take a look at her website, because – I thought – it sounded funky. And as I look around I see pictures of Alicia Keys and Beyonce wearing ‘the’ outfits!
Maya describes the silhouettes of her designs as “Vintage-inspired silhouettes celebrate a time gone by, with designs that call upon the spirit and lives of mid-century American women that are modernized for the woman of today and the future.”‘ And it shows. Her clothes are obviously inspired by the old times and given a twist through the Ankara fabrics she uses. They definitely add some attitude.
Unfortunately finding her website did not bring an end to my journey. Why? The website doesn’t say where her designs (besides the online shop) are sold…
If you would like to know more about the ‘self-taught’ designer, the fabrics she uses to bring her creations to life or the celebs that have worn her clothes? Visit her website Boxingkitten.com
Looks like Giorgio Armani isn’t a one-woman man after all.
Fresh off designing a revealing bodysuit for Lady Gaga’s “American Idol” performance this week, the famed designer has announced that he’ll be working on a tour wardrobe for a major singer, and her name ain’t Gaga.
This time, it’s Alicia Keys who will be rocking the Armani as she embarks on her “The Element of Freedom” European tour, the company tells us.
Keys, who wore Armani for her 2008 “As I Am” tour, will hit the stage in four outfits from the Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani labels.
The luxe loot includes an embroidered, crocodile-print military leather jacket worn with leggings, a silk one-shoulder top and Swarovski crystal-studded leather boots.
Keys can also trade her shapewear tank in for a dark gray one-shoulder silk chiffon gown accented with Swarovski crystals and sequins; a second silk, embroidered one-shoulder top worn with leggings and crystal boots; and a sexy, ruffled black viscose lame mini dress accessorized with Swarovski crystal gloves.
