So long Bryant Park…

Feb. 16th 2010 by Amy Simpe (former Fesjon author)

The next edition of ‘Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week’ will be held at a new location. The white tents that characarized NY’s Fashion Week have been set up for one last time. Lincoln Center for Performing Arts will be replacing Bryant Park as the fashion week’s new home. The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), involved in organizing fashion week, revealed this last month.  ”They didn’t want us anymore, so we found a better place. The only way to deal with rejection is by shining,” said Diane von Fürstenberg, CFDA’s president.

Lincoln Center sounded quite boring to me, at first. NY Fashion Week in one of the many halls of the many buildings in New York. I had not yet seen the (beautiful) building to be honest. But I wasn’t really concerned with the building to be honest. I worried about the atmosphere fashion week carries along and the fact that it had played a lead role at Bryant Park. It seemed as if it would be featuring as a support act, along side other dance and opera companies, in the story of the Lincoln.

The cooperation of the organizers of NYC Fashion Week and Lincoln Center may on the other hand lead to new possibilities. Maybe new cooperations with i.e. the New York City Ballet, Jazz at Lincoln Center or The Metropolitan Opera, who have been Lincoln their home for quite some time now.
