Girls run the world !!

May. 20th 2011 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Miss B recently told Billboard Magazine, “I feel like my job in the industry is to push the limits, and I have to constantly evolve.” Her latest track isn’t just about testing new waters, she continued to tell Billboard, “It ["Run the World (Girls)"] reminded me of what I love, which is mixing different cultures and eras — things that typically don’t go together — to create a new sound. I can never be safe; I always try and go against the grain. As soon as I accomplish one thing, I just set a higher goal. That’s how I’ve gotten to where I am.”

Jean Paul Gaultier going home furnishing

May. 8th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Jean Paul Gaultier’s upcoming new home furnishings line for Roche Bobois, set to debut in the coming months, WWD reports.

While details are scarce at this time, the French designer is giving us a glimpse of his interior skills with the Elle Decoration Suite in Paris, his makeover of the former Parisian apartment of ’30s-era architect Jacques Carlu, according to a press release.

Open to the public from May 8 until October 2011, the Roche Bobois-sponsored suite features nautical and natural details, such as navy striped walls and garden prints.

“Clothes are my vocation, and as I only know how to dress, I dressed this Elle Decoration Suite… with various notes that already reside in my collections,” Gaultier says in the release, citing green, marine, reflective and satin influences.

We suspect the designer, who’s been keeping busy with collaborations with Target, Melissa and Pataugas, will follow a similar route with his home furnishings line.

But until we know for sure, we’ll just have to book a flight to Paris to check out his apartment.

Jean Paul Gaultier honored at AmfAR

Apr. 1st 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

AmfAR is going into overdrive this year and taking Jean Paul Gaultier along for the ride.

In addition to its annual benefit, the latest of which was this past February in NYC with guests including Lady Gaga, the charitable organization is throwing its first ever “Inspiration Gala” on June 3.

The new gala will celebrate fashion creativity via benefits in New York, Paris and Los Angeles with proceeds going to HIV/AIDS research.

Kicking off the first of the series, Kylie Minogue will host a formal soirée to honor the work of Jean Paul Gaultier at Manhattan’s gorgeous Public Library in Bryant Park.

The cocktail event and dinner will also include a runway presentation encompassing this year’s theme: “Black Tie/Black Leather” menswear.

Denim comeback

Feb. 26th 2010 by Gina Bijlard (former author)

How ever the Jeans where never completely gone, there are a lot of denim collections this upcoming season.
What used to be very fashionably wrong, is now a must.
To dress in denim from top to toe is now a  “do” on the fashion list, and next to that it’s its absolutely hot to combine different kinds of structure en colored denims.
Looking at the Jeans itself, we see a lot of washed, bleached, holes, ripped and the Boy-friend-model.

H&M has a small collection made completely from denim fabrics.
So not just Jeans but also denim blouses, jackets, tops, bags and other kind of accessories.
