Spring 2010 trend: polka dots

Make a spotty fashion statement this spring with polka dots. The cheery prints popped up all over the runways.

At Michael Kors, the designer went for a black and white splatter that looked more beautiful than bovine. Fellow New York designers Tracy Reese showed hers as an artsy overlay while Chris Benz  jumpsuit punctuated with colorful pop art circles.

If you choose to go for this graphic look, then consider your size. Don’t pick a pattern that will overwhelm. For example, petite women should opt for small to medium polka dots while bigger ladies should feel free to experiment with bolder pieces.

Spring Beauty Trend: Flirty Eyeliner

Mar. 30th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

From Christian Dior to Marc Jacobs, eyeliner ran rampant on the Spring 2010 runways.

Applied flirtily, with a coy uptick at the ends, and worn with glowing skin and sorbet-tone lips, eyeliner is an easy way to update your Spring makeup routine.

In the past few weeks, a few celebrities have pulled off the look fabulously: Nicole Richie made her hazel eyes pop at the Academy Awards with heather gray eyeshadow with bold eyeliner. Beyoncé made a fierce statement with kohl-rimmed eyes and tomato red lipstick at an event in New York City. And Dakota Fanning owned the cat eye look by pairing it with rosy cheeks, lush lashes, and pink lips at a party for The Runaways.

Inspired by their fresh take on eyeliner? Then get the look yourself. The trick is choosing the right products and application methods for your eye shape.

H&M Garden Collection

Mar. 22nd 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Just in time for spring, H&M is introducing its Garden Collection, which is full of floral prints-bright, bold and even subtle – all made in organic and recycled materials.

“We’re listening to our customer. Every year we use 50 percent more recycled product,” including PET bottles (aka plastic soda bottles) and recycled textile waste.

Aside from the recycled polyester, H&M’s 80-piece collection also includes eco-friendly fabrics like organic cotton, linen, and Tencel, which is produced with minimal environmental impact.

As you’d expect, the clothing itself is romantic and quite feminine. It’s styled in a ’70s, Talitha Getty kind of way — relaxed, flowing floral pieces you could imagine wearing on a yacht in the Mediterranean (or at your local pool).

And though the prints are all floral-inspired, they are not as precious as you’d expect — there’s a real modern edge to this collection, which hits the selling floor March 25.

Fenny Faber
Spring/Summer collection 2010 from upcoming fashiondesigner Fenny Faber:
Minimalistic and feminine.

Fashion designer Fenny Faber has developed a strong personal characteristic which shows again obviously in her fifth collection. Every one who loves graphical, minimalistic, differentiated and still feminine designs has to take a look at Fennys work. To divide the clothes optically in blocks she uses rectangular shapes which get accentuated by different colours or materials. The collections consists of easy to combine greys, white and sea-green with petrol and powder pink as accent colours. An unique design and comfort to wear go hand in hand with Fenny; thanks to natural materials as silk, linen and cotton combined with nicely draping jerseys her designs fit perfectly.

From March 2010 her collection will be sold at Young Designers United, Keizersgracht 447, Amsterdam.
Her collection can also be ordered from her webshop at
www.fennyfaber.com. Through the webshop the clothes can be made to measure.

H&M

In spite of the fact it’s still winter and we are only allowed to dream about nice sunny spring days, H&M is going one step further. Sinds yesterday you have the possibility to shop for your spring/summer wardrobe. We see that the colour purple is going to the background and the green-blue tones are taking over. We also see a lot of pink and a lot of flowerprints on tops, bottoms, skirt and dresses. If we are looking at the colour pallet of H&M spring/summer 2010 will be a bright season. We can’t…
