Phoenix, het mythologische fabeldier, vormt de inspiratie voor de vijfde ready to wear collectie van MATTIJS. Mattijs van Bergen, zoals de ontwerper in het echt heet, lijkt stijliconen als Marilyn Monroe en Rita Hayworth tot leven te toveren. De iconische heldinnen van het witte doek schitteren in Van Bergens fantasie in fladderende vormen. Het klassieke couturegevoel uit de jaren ’40 wordt vertaald naar moderne kleren. Phoenix, the mythical animal, is the inspiration for the fifth ready to wear collection of MATTIJS. Mattijs van Bergen (his real name) wants to bring style icons such as Marylin Monroe and Rita Hayworth to life. The iconic heroines of white canvas shine in Van Bergens fantasy in fluttering forms. The classic couture feeling of the ’40′s will be translated to modern clothing.

Dit hebben we zeker teruggezien in zijn collectie tijdens de openingsavond van AIFW afgelopen woensdag. De collectie is elegant en glamorous. De collectie is overwegend zwart, goud, rood en turqoise. De modellen showden o.a. (feestelijke) jurkjes, lange jurken, mantels, chic broekpakken, blazers en rokken met veren. De mooie zwarte/ zilveren pumps en laarsjes waren ons ook zeker opgevallen. We definitely saw this in his collection during the opening of Amsterdam International Fashion Week, last Wednesday. The collection is very elegant and glamorous. The collection features colors like black, gold, red and turquoise. The models showed (festive) dresses, long dresses, coats, chic pantsuits, blazers and skirts with real feathers. We also noticed the beautiful black/ silver pumps and boots.

MATTIJS streeft ernaar om vrouwen te kleden op een manier die hun persoonlijkheid extra benadrukt. “Ik houd van vrouwelijkheid in mijn kleding en van de subtiele verleiding”, aldus de jonge getalenteerde ontwerper.MATTIJS aims to dress women in a way to stress their personality. “I love femininity and temptation in a subtle way in my designs”, says the young talented designer.

Na drie shows onder de paraplu van Prélude is dit zijn eerste solo show in Amsterdam. Hij showde eerder solo tijdens de London Fashion Week. Beide met succes! After three shows under the umbrella of Prélude this is his first solo show in Amsterdam. He already showed his designs solo during the London Fashion Week. Both with success!
