One Girl’s Perspective on a Fashion-Filled Friday in the City of Brotherly Love

Let me just preface this by saying that I was a volunteer for Philadelphia Fashion Week (read: I was there for seven hours on Friday, October 9th—and on my cranky feet the whole time too, might I add), so it is highly possible that what I witnessed and how I witnessed it might differ a bit from the “average” attendee of the event. However, that being said, I was also able to observe all the goings-on from the inside out… and from all sorts of other (sometimes slightly painful) angles. You have been forewarned. Let’s do this.

Sneakers are totally fashion these days. A nice reason to put your beautiful, but high heels in the closet once in a while. Red, yellow, screaming green or just a little bit more sophisticated silver, you can choose every colour if you want to.

A combination of architecture, fashion, science and textiles is equal to the name Lynne Bruning. A awardwinning designer who lets her creativity loose in several ways. She creates exclusive wearable art by fusing her education in neurophysiology and her Masters degree in architecture.
For example the ‘Synaptic’. A piece of clothing which is based on a scanning electron micrograph of nerve endings, the synapses. The fabric is blacklight reactive and is designed and created to represent this beautiful anatomical computer.

Another example is the wearable cane she made for the blind. ‘Bats Have Feelings Too!’ is a stylish jacket that utilizes an ultrasonic range finder to assist the visually impaired with navigating the built environment. This project even gives instructions, so anyone can make this coat.

It’s obvious that Lynne Bruning is not just another designer. She is an artist and I can assure you that we will hear a lot more from her.

Beautiful belts, purses and ofcourse.. shoes! We’re talking about no one else but Jimmy Choo. In a short while H&M will be filled with a great collection from this phenomenal designer. The rock/punk look is totally the IT-look this winter. A very nice trend, cause you it’s so easy to wear. Think about black leggings or (ripped) skinny jeans with biker boots. Combine this with a long shirt, laces, long chains and a leather jacket. Put some smokey eyes on your face, some dark colours on your nails and you’re ready to rock!

Boots are winterproof forever. But this season we’re going a little bit further. Yes, over the knee. As we know it can create very quickly a very cheap look, but when you combine it with a pretty dress or more rock on a legging with a long top, nothing can go wrong. Instead of a trashy look is suddenly damn sexy!

Fur is beautiful. It looks great and it gives many outfits just that little extra to it. But is that a reason to kill innocent animals? No!!
It’s a relief that this becomes more and more an issue. Nowadays you will find many beautiful ‘fake fur’ pieces. Scarfs, hats, coats, bodywarmers, gloves, etc, etc. Besides you don’t have to wear anything with feelings of guilt, it’s also much cheaper. A handy side-effect in these times of crisis.
Get yourself ready for the cold days, because you will be very warm with these items.

Sexy, comfortable and you can combine it endlessly: the jumpsuit. No difficulties to find a matching outfit in your wardrope. You just slip it on, wear some beautiful heels and accesories and you’re ready to go. It can’t be easier!
We already saw the jumpsuit this summer worn with some chique sandals, but even this fall we will keep on finding him everywhere. Combine it with a nice, warm vest, rockin’ heels and you will never ever want to take it off again.
