’Come out and play’ with Roparosa

Jul. 21st 2010 by Amy Simpe (former Fesjon author)

Amsterdam – Roos van de Kamp started her label Roparose -meaning Rosa’s clothes – won the Dutch edition of Project Catwalk. Part of her prize was a chance to show a collection at Amsterdam’s International Fashion Week. Last Sunday she got the chance to do so.

It was a hot outside and it was hot in the salon. Some visitors used their fans from Redken to scare the heat away. It wasn’t until the first model hit the runway that I forgot about the heat.

The Collection Roos had show the jury during the finally of Project Catwalk aroused lots of controversy. Some people did not believe that she had done all the work herself.  Ans so expectations were set high. Would she be able to do what she had done before? With a new concept and the same quality?

Some dream of going away to the circus…

Jul. 16th 2010 by Amy Simpe (former Fesjon author)

Amsterdam -‘Some dream of going away to the circus’ is the ninth collection by “Individuals by AMFI” (read: students from Amsterdam Fashion Institute.) The salon had been filled by family members, friends, colleagues, journalists and some well known folks of the Dutch fashion industry. “Sometimes I feel like putting my hands up in the air…” Music filled the half lit space. That is, until everyone sat down and the signs that enabled us to find our seats were removed. The first model appeared through a thick smoke cloud, as light broke out and lit up the runway. Soft silky salmon and mat purple colors were revealed. Designs with strong silhouettes were alternated with soft designs. The latter made graceful by minor adjustments and draping.

Phoenix by MATTIJS

Feb. 1st 2010 by Majdeline Abbou (former reporter)

Phoenix, the mythical animal, is the inspiration for the fifth ready to wear collection of MATTIJS. Mattijs van Bergen (his real name) wants to bring style icons such as Marylin Monroe and Rita Hayworth to life. The iconic heroines of white canvas shine in Van Bergens fantasy in fluttering forms. The classic couture feeling of the ’40′s will be translated to modern clothing.

We definitely saw this in his collection during the opening of Amsterdam International Fashion Week, last Wednesday. The collection is very elegant and glamorous. The collection features colors like black, gold, red and turquoise. The models showed (festive) dresses, long dresses, coats, chic pantsuits, blazers and skirts with real feathers. We also noticed the beautiful black/ silver pumps and boots. Read More

Winner Sacha Golden Heel Award 2010

Jan. 31st 2010 by Majdeline Abbou (former reporter)

The 3th edition of the Sacha Golden Heel Award 2010 is awarded on Thursday, January 28th. Eight students of Fashion Institute Arnhem (FIA) made a design. Pauline van Dongen is the winner of this edition with her “Vertigo” design.

The selected winning design had an industrial look, it’s a fascination between shape and space and dialog between the shoe and sole. Her design is a spatial, sculptural gesture with a search for reflections and perspective coming together.

The jury chose for authenticity and renewal in the design vocabulary. Pauline will receive financial support from Sacha in her career development, to spend it on her communication route.

Congratulations Pauline!
