Iman honoured as a Fashion Icon

Jul. 27th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Before Kate, Giselle and Doutzen owned single name model status there was Iman. The Somali model started appearing in the pages of Vogue in 1976 after being talent spotted by photographer Peter Beard. She went on to work alongside designers Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan.

The late Yves Saint Laurent once declared, “My dream woman is Iman,” so it’s no wonder that the Council of Fashion Designers of America honoured Iman as a fashion icon.

Since stepping out of the photo studio Iman has pursued a career in acting, with roles in “No Way Out” and “Out of Africa”, hosting Project Runway Canada and developing the Iman cosmetics line.

Since 1992 Iman has been married to pop icon David Bowie and continues to personify grace and elegance…

Calvin Klein, bye bye size zero

May. 15th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Bye bye, size zero!

Calvin Klein has reportedly ditched beyond-skinny models in favor size 2-4 beauties, Fashionologie reports.

With size 4 supermodel Lara Stone rumored to front several Calvin Klein campaigns this fall, designer Francisco Costa, who recently spoke out about the use of underweight, underaged models, has apparently decided to ditch size 0 girls altogether, according to the fashion blog.

Meanwhile, Management Christopher Michael reportedly spilled more details, tweeting that it was “a sign of the times indeed.”

Woo Hoo! We might actually have to fight at the catering trays backstage next Fashion Week, usually we’re the only ones eating.

Though sizes 2 and 4 are hardly “meaty,” it is a big step for the fashion industry and further proof that the ongoing celebration of curves still has legs.

But what will become of these size 0 castoffs?
