La Petite Mort

Feb. 2nd 2011 by Manon Bruinekreeft (author)

During the Amsterdam International Fashion Week Individuals shows their fall/winter 2011/2012 collection. La Petite Mort is the tenth collection of the fashionlabel from students from the AMFI.
This collection shows the inner struggle between the desire for freedom and the need of retaining control. This was manifested in the use of light smooth, sometimes transparent materials like silk. Also the loose silhouettes stressed this desire.
The emphasis was on the female form by corsets and increased shoulder parties. Just like last season there was a lot of attention for the small details. This makes the collection very special.
This collection contains less color. They used a lot of classic black combine with a spark of copper luxury fabrics like cashmere and leather.

Nov. 5th 2010 by Jasna Zellerhoff (ZA reporter)

Day 2 of SAFW started with the collection from Silver Spoon.

I loved the cardigans mixed with prints and the socks and brogues.

The collection had a very vintage chic feel to it and a reminded me a little bit of what Chloe Sevigney calls her staple items….
Here are a few of my favourite looks….

The Elle new talent show

Oct. 7th 2010 by Jasna Zellerhoff (ZA reporter)

I am really proud to be from South Africa and to have a column like I do here on Fesjon Magazine so that I can post all about the talent in South African Fashion and recently I went to The Elle New Talent  Fashion Show at SAFW.

I was blown away by the talent we have here, the designs  and garments from each designer was amazing and very individual. They all interpreted trends in a very South African way, but also in a way that would appeal to the over seas market.

The winner in the end was Cleo Droomer as seen on the bottom of the page and he really deserved it!  He showed how one piece of material can be so versatile and the shoulder detail on all the jackets had a almost futuristic  but very wearable style.

As you can see by these designs, these finalists are going places and are the future in SA  Fashion.

The Fashion line

Sep. 13th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg didn’t take a private car or a cab to the official kick-off to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. “I just took the Fashion Line,” the mayor said. In honor of Fashion Week’s new digs at Lincoln Center, the city has officially renamed the 1-line subway the Fashion Line.

Though the politician is clearly a suit-and-tie kind of guy. Who was he wearing? Tie by Hermès, shirt by Paul Stuart, suit by Brooklyn tailor Martin Greenfield, and underwear by Bloomies. “But you could ask me any other day and get the same answer. I’m a fashion designer’s nightmare,” Bloomberg said.
