Viva Life, Viva Glam

Mar. 5th 2010 by Lotte van den Acker (author)

Sharon Osbourne recently spoke with Cindy Lauper and Lady Gaga about HIV and Aids for the new M.A.C. Viva Glam campaign. These three iconic women have come together to have an open and honest conversation about this sensitive subject. M.A.C started selling lipstick today from which 100% of the gainings will go to the M.A.C Aids Fund. This Fund will cooperate with pharmaceutical companies that produce women condoms, so that women can get more control and make their own decisions about their body. In a lot of countries women are still held back and are not allowed to make their own choices. That’s why an initiative like this is very important.

The message that Cindy and Gaga want to spread is particularly about a sisterhood-feeling. Cindy finds it beautiful that lipstick is being used as a symbol for spreading words and breaking the Aids taboo by making this topic discussion-able in our society. By this campaign they hope to stimulate safe sex and make people aware of the effects of STD, HIV and Aids.

Lady Gaga doesn’t think that people are just as conscious about HIV and Aids in the 80s. “72% of the sexually active women in the Uk have never been tested on STD, HIV and Aids. That’s shocking! It’s cool to get yourself tested.”

Cindy Lauper says that if you love yourself, you should look out for yourself. “The Viva Glam lipstick will constantly remind us: spread the word, not the disease. Don’t be a knucklehead, take care of yourself!”

There are 2 new lipsticks coming out, Viva Glam Gaga (a fresh bright pink color) and Viva Glam Cindy (a coral red color) and they will be available from March 5th.

NYFW trends fall 2010

Mar. 5th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

During the New York Fashion Week we saw a lot of trends from conservative glamour till urban warriors we are getting excited for the fall.

Urban Warrior

Designers have always been fascinated with the idea of the strong woman. She usually appears after seasons of ultra-femme runways, but fall 2010 saw her evolve out of the tough, downtown chic that has dominated for a while. She appreciates a finely tailored coat, who prefers minimal to more, and who definitely loves a little luxury.
But just because she’s working the severe side of sexy doesn’t mean she’s immune to the fluffy stuff.

Fashion house Lacroix is making a comeback

Mar. 3rd 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Despite filing for bankruptcy and running solely as a licensing operation, the Christian Lacroix label is making a fashion comeback in a big way.

The company has announced plans for four upcoming fashion and lifestyle lines while pursuing licensing deals for lingerie, childrenswear and men’s and women’s accessory collections, according to the paper.

While Lacroix, the brand, is still out of the couture and ready-to-wear game, it has reportedly set its sights on a range of women’s sunglasses and optical frames for Mondottica; luxury stationery via Libretto Holdings; home textiles with the Designers Guild and decorative wood panels with Marotte.

Sounds like there’s plenty to be done, though it will be completed by fewer people; just 12 employees will reportedly remain after further layoffs. French designer Christian Lacroix, whose name carries on, is no longer involved with the company.

Additionally, the label plans to shutter Lacroix boutiques and auction off its furniture pieces while focusing on its new projects.

“I think it’s better to start fresh,” Lacroix CEO Nicolas Topiol told the source.

But first, the label plans to make one teeny little detour: Oscar dresses!
