Personality and the right bag

Nov. 8th 2011 by Fesjon Guest Editor

Guest editor for a week: Moriam

At home I probably have about 20 different handbags. Different colours, sizes, shapes, etc. A family thing, my mother has around 50 and I now realize this addiction has crossed generations right through to my own daughter who at the time of writing this has just turned 12.

It’s actually something to look at with fascination and pride. The only thing is that a bag needs to fit with who you are as a person, the occasion you’re at and also who you want to be. These days we are more and more focused on where we want to be in the future – and thank goodness for this, without direction in life you simply don’t go anywhere, not forward not even backward whilst the rest are racing past you.

Whilst we all know that living in the moment is of the essence, we cannot escape thinking about our lives in the future and as long as we maintain the balance of doing both, living in the present whilst keeping our eyes on the future, all should be in good harmony.
This is an interesting take on things.

It’s a little exercise whereby I am using a personality trait such as ‘ambition’ and matching it to the handbag.
Why? Well it’s fun and secondly it’s good for a bit of self reflection and projection. The character trait you choose should be one you have now but also choose a trait you’d like to develop later and then choose a bag that fits with it. The bag represents your dreams and fears as well by the way!

For example:

So this would be my trait and bags now and in the future.

It’s a fun exercise which everyone can do and great to help you recognize where you are now and where you’d like. Have fun!

Bulgari handbag for Matthew Williamson

Aug. 17th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Fashion lovers around the world let out a figurative squeal last March when news broke that Matthew Williamson was designing a line of accessories for Bulgari.

The only details at the time were really just the release-date target of Milan Fashion Week in September. Well, Fesjon has learned a little more.

The hobo bags and clutches will be available in three styles in a faceted, gemstone-shaped embossed leather and even the bag’s silhouettes are angular and jewel-shaped. They’ll be offered in a palette of “rubellite pink, emerald green, and sapphire blue.”

Ruched Purse - Black2

The bags are made of eel skin, eel skin is far more solid than cow hide and it don’t leave any marks if it rains. And that is just the thing you need a wear- and weather resistant handbag that also looks amazing. With the upcoming holiday it’s a welcome gift for underneath the Christmas tree…

Heidi Mottram worked in the world of art, fashion and textiles for several years before establishing her own line in 2007. A graduate from London College of Fashion and Central St Martin’s, Heidi started her career working with many major international designers including Vivienne Westwood and Matthew Williamson.

Heidi is a specialist in using eel skin as a textile and is considered the UK guru in the use of the product in design and fashion. She has discovered new ways to work with and manipulate the skins, including pleating, ruching, pin tucking and folding to create new textures and shapes.

Heidi has created outstanding works of art that have been sold in galleries across the UK, as well as developing a collection of corsets and eel skin designs for bags, purses and wallets. She continues to develop the use of eel skin, working on commissions and projects in the art, design and fashion fields and is always looking for new arenas for her creative talents.
