Talbots Gets a Younger, Hipper Makeover

Apr. 29th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Talbots has long been synonymous with classic and conservative clothes your mom would wear.

Or rather, your mom used to wear, but even she’s evolved. And the good news is that Talbots recently woke up and realized that it  needed to evolve.

The company, that just closed an ambitious warrant exchange offer which will allow it to emerge in a much better financial position, is in year two of a three-year turnaround plan.

And this phase includes a repositioning to a place of style, and, dare we say, fashion?

H&M Garden Collection

Mar. 22nd 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

Just in time for spring, H&M is introducing its Garden Collection, which is full of floral prints-bright, bold and even subtle – all made in organic and recycled materials.

“We’re listening to our customer. Every year we use 50 percent more recycled product,” including PET bottles (aka plastic soda bottles) and recycled textile waste.

Aside from the recycled polyester, H&M’s 80-piece collection also includes eco-friendly fabrics like organic cotton, linen, and Tencel, which is produced with minimal environmental impact.

As you’d expect, the clothing itself is romantic and quite feminine. It’s styled in a ’70s, Talitha Getty kind of way — relaxed, flowing floral pieces you could imagine wearing on a yacht in the Mediterranean (or at your local pool).

And though the prints are all floral-inspired, they are not as precious as you’d expect — there’s a real modern edge to this collection, which hits the selling floor March 25.

NYFW trends fall 2010

Mar. 5th 2010 by Mariana Davelaar (editor)

During the New York Fashion Week we saw a lot of trends from conservative glamour till urban warriors we are getting excited for the fall.

Urban Warrior

Designers have always been fascinated with the idea of the strong woman. She usually appears after seasons of ultra-femme runways, but fall 2010 saw her evolve out of the tough, downtown chic that has dominated for a while. She appreciates a finely tailored coat, who prefers minimal to more, and who definitely loves a little luxury.
But just because she’s working the severe side of sexy doesn’t mean she’s immune to the fluffy stuff.

Sex and the City 2

Dec. 15th 2009 by Majdeline Abbou (former reporter)

satc-2-poster

For every fashionista, Sex and the City 2 is going to hit the big screen.

Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha are back. We see a glowing Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) on the teaserposter of the movie. We also hope to see all the girls together on a poster. Anyway Carrie looks very futuristic in this outfit! Is there something about her future in the movie? Take a deep look at her sunglasses..hmm..it looks like it’s Marocco? Isn’t it? Rumours are telling that the crew of SATC 2 visited Marocco for filming some parts of the movie.

The SATC 2 movie features appearances by Miley Cyrus, Penélope Cruz and Liza Minelli.

The film is scheduled for release on 28 May, 2010.

For those who can’t wait to see the movie, click here for the movie trailer.

A touch of Tweety!

Sep. 24th 2009 by Thessalie

tweetydetails

In spite of the dissatisfaction of a lot of topdesigners, the return of the eighties is considered as a true horror-movie. However the shoulderpads with a playful wink to the eighties will become totally hip again! We saw them passing by on almost every catwalk.

touches of yellowThe colour red, and all combinations of  it, with violent colours such as orange and fuchsia-roze are also trendy. We already saw a few beautiful combinations passing by, for example princess Maxima who was recently wearing a beautiful red/pink valentino blazer with a hip folden skirt.  Red is back on track!

What also will become completely hip according to the catwalks are canary yellow details, such as shoes and handgloves!! Take them as yellow as you can find! Can’t find the money to buy them?.., combine your high heels with some canary yellow socks! Totally tweety! And you don’t even need a beautiful voice…
